A citizen of the town when it was first established, Peter grew up in Bristol with his father mother and siblings. Once he was old enough Peter joined the Continental army to fight for a free America. working his way up the ranks until he was rewarded the status of Colonel. After the Revolutionary War, he came back to his home town to settle down and work on his father’s farm.
Eventually seeing how many people opened their homes to travelers heading to the Boston area every harvest, Peter decided to build a place where travelers could rest their head and relax. After two years of work on the establishment, Sleepers Tavern was open for business in 1794.
The tavern was well know all around for its music and entertainment. With entertainment happening most nights people would come from all around to enjoy the food and drinks. After some time other taverns started to pop up around the greater Bristol area including The Kelly Tavern. which was Peter soul rival for the time his tavern was open.
Eventually, Peter decided to close up his business and retire to his farm in 1806. After this, the property says many different owners. Eventually, it became residents in the town where it still resides today.
